Pasadena : Parole Office Protest

March 23, 1989

The Board of Directors has decided to lodge a protest with Gov. George Deukmejian over the state's plan to put a parole office in Pasadena.

Mayor William Thomson and Director Jess Hughston will deliver the city's objections to Sacramento and are expected to leave in the next two weeks.

The state Department of Corrections recently began considering opening an office on Rosemead Boulevard near the Hastings Ranch neighborhood. Four other locations, which have not been made public, are also being considered.

The new office will replace the one in Alhambra, which is scheduled to close in October.

Nearly 1,000 residents turned out Monday for a meeting with state officials. Residents said a parole office, serving about 1,000 parolees, would increase crime in the area.
