Norwalk : College Seeks Federal Grant for Drug Prevention Project

March 23, 1989

Cerritos College will apply for a federal grant of nearly $150,000 to help with a campus drug prevention program. The college Board of Trustees gave unanimous approval Tuesday to an application requesting the money from the U.S. Department of Education.

The money would be used to start an education and drug prevention program at the 18,000-student school in Norwalk. The college would contribute more than $230,000 to the project.

The program would include drug prevention counseling for faculty and students and information on drug prevention throughout the curriculum.

"We hope to develop a program to prevent drug use among students and teachers. We hope we can impact generations of students, parents and grandparents," said Jan Dennis-Rounds, college administrative dean of educational support services.
