Car Smashes Into Gate at Camp David Retreat

THURMONT, Md. — A car crashed into the main gate of the Camp David presidential retreat, seriously injuring the driver, authorities said.

President Bush was in Washington at the time of the incident Wednesday night. White House spokesman B. J. Cooper said the reinforced gate was not damaged.

The driver, Mary Louise Tasler, 48, of Sabillasville, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
