Speedway motorcyclist Shawn Moran of Huntington Beach will be among the field at 8 tonight when racing resumes at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Moran was among four American riders who qualified for the Overseas Final on June 25 in England, the second of three qualifying rounds that leads to the world championship.

Alan Christian of Murrieta, the top local rider at Costa Mesa with three scratch main victories and a handicap main victory, is sidelined after cracking four ribs in a crash at Ascot's South Bay Stadium last week.

Mike Faria of Colton and Gary Hicks of Glen Avon each has won two scratch main events in the 12 weeks of racing at Costa Mesa.

The second Midsummer Night's 12K run at Coto de Caza will be July 29 starting at 5 p.m. There also will be a 5K run, 5K stride, and a one-mile fun run.

The event will benefit the Make-a-Wish foundation in Orange County. The foundation grants wishes to children with terminal or life-threating illnesses. For more information, call Dot Michaels at 858-2793.
