Loan Fund Set Up for Homeless

June 25, 1989

Help the Homeless Help Themselves Inc., a Palos Verdes Peninsula group that raises money for organizations assisting the homeless, has established a permanent $20,000 fund for low-interest loans to help working families pay rent and utilities, according to the group's president, Bill Finkel.

"This is for those who earn too little to pay first or last month's rent, so they will not be homeless," said Finkel, a Rancho Palos Verdes resident who founded the group in 1987. He said priority will be given to single parents and families with small children who have sufficient income to pay regular monthly rent, without regard for where they choose to live. The money will go directly to landlords and utility companies.

Finkel said any shelter may refer people to the group and individuals also may apply. More information is available from Finkel at (213) 377-3213.
