UC Riverside entomologists have received $32,000 in grants to begin biological warfare against the ash whitefly, which is potentially damaging to fruit trees. Entomologists Tom Bellows and Tim Paine plan a biological control program to import and establish natural enemies of the ash whitefly. The grants, which they hope to increase to $60,000, will also support research into the insect's biology and its short-term control with insecticides.
