John Montes defended his California junior welterweight title with a third-round knockout over Kenny Comer in their scheduled 12-round state title bout Wednesday night at the Hollywood Palladium.
The 140-pound Montes, of Anaheim, hit Comer, 139 pounds, with a strong left hook and followed with combinations to the head and body before referee Kenny Davis stopped the fight at 2:30 of the third round. Montes raised his record to 44-5, 30 wins by knockout.
