Shells slammed into a hospital in Muslim West Beirut, killing one person and wounding at least 15, and snipers shot at firefighters as they battled to control the resulting blaze. According to eyewitnesses, the shells hit the first and sixth floors of the hospital, the second largest in West Beirut. "One person was killed when the operating room was set ablaze after it received a direct hit," a witness said. Fifteen people, including passers-by, patients and personnel, were wounded. The building is near the Green Line battlefront dividing the Lebanese capital into Christian and Muslim sectors.
