July 09, 1989

A Man in Love (TMC Sunday at 1:30 p.m.): French writer-director Diane Kurys' impressive English language debut, with Peter Coyote, never better as an American working in Rome and falling in love with his leading lady (Greta Scacchi). (2:00)

French Can-can (Bravo Sunday at 5 p.m., again at 11:05 p.m.): Glorious, colorful Jean Renoir period piece, telling the story of the fabled Moulin Rouge, whose proprietor is played by Jean Gabin. (2:00)

Phantom of the Paradise (Channel 5 Tuesday at 3 a.m.): Brian De Palma's witty and inspired reworking of "The Phantom of the Opera" into a rock music milieu. (2:00)

Impact (Channel 7 Wednesday at 1 a.m.): Nifty '40s film noir , starring Brian Donlevy and Ella Raines. (2:00)

Renegade Girl (Channel 5 Saturday at 3:15 a.m.): Highly obscure '40s movie, but a rare opportunity to see the intense Ann Savage in a film other than Edgar Ulmer's classic "Detour." (1:45)
