NICOSIA, Cyprus — Iran hanged 13 drug dealers today, labeling them "merchants of death" and bringing to 700 the number of people executed by Tehran this year for drug trafficking.

Iran launched a campaign against drugs in January with tough laws that sanctioned death for anyone caught with one ounce of heroin or 11 pounds of opium.
