A Glendale woman is being treated for severe chemical burns after an unidentified man accosted her on the street Sunday and threw a caustic liquid in her face, authorities said.
Shusan Eloyan, 22, was walking in the 100 block of North Adams Street in Glendale about 4:40 p.m. when the man approached her from behind and threw the liquid in her face, said Glendale Police Sgt. Chris Loop.
The man was carrying the liquid in a glass jar, Loop said.
Eloyan was treated at Glendale Adventist Hospital and transferred Tuesday to the burn unit of County-USC Medical Center.
Eloyan suffered burns to her eyes, chest and arms and is listed in serious but stable condition, hospital spokeswoman Adelaida De Lacerda said. She said Eloyan could lose her sight.
Eloyan was on her way to a grocery store near her home when the incident occurred, police said. No motive has been established for the attack.
