Street Fair to Open Friday at Echo Park

August 10, 1989

The ninth annual Sunset Junction Street Fair will begin Friday in Echo Park, instead of Silver Lake, which was the site of the previous eight gay- and Latino-centered events.

Festivities will be at Echo Park Lake this year because the Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance, which presents the event, represents the communities of Echo Park and Los Feliz as well as Silver Lake, said Michael McKinley, an alliance spokesman.

The three-day event continues through the weekend, with opening ceremonies scheduled at noon Saturday. Rides, games and booths featuring ethnic foods and arts will be among the fair's attractions.
