I have known Mike Lansford since our Little League days and we have remained good friends to this day.
In Chris Dufresne's article on Lansford (July 31), he writes about the extra-point attempt in the 1973 Alhambra game. His description of Mike's attempt as a flat-out, two-hands-around-the-throat choke is an understatement. What Mike failed to mention is that had he been successful with the PAT, we would have tied for the league championship.
Yes, I was Mike's holder that year and I know that a successful PAT does not consist of a "snap-spot- shank " as this kick did.
Mike can blame me for this shank shot as he has done over the years, but there are 35 ex-teammates of his that lay the blame elsewhere.
I am happy that Mike has become such a fine kicker, since I know he could not work at Carl's Jr. wearing only one shoe.
