Driver Dies in Fiery Seal Beach Crash

August 24, 1989

A car that witnesses said appeared to be street racing crashed into a tree in a center divider on Lampson Avenue in Seal Beach and burst into flames Wednesday night, killing its driver.

The crash occurred between Candleberry Avenue and Heather Circle at the edge of the city's College Park East neighborhood. Witnesses said the car was engulfed by fire and destroyed.

Authorities withheld identification of the driver until his family could be notified. Onlookers who claimed to know the driver said he was a 19-year-old Seal Beach resident.

Witnesses said no other vehicle was involved in the collision, which occurred about 6:45 p.m.
