In a plea bargain that spares him a possible death sentence, a man pleaded guilty Friday to stabbing to death a niece of Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn during a 1987 residential robbery.
Jose Ulivarri, 24, pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Norwalk to one count each of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder of a neighbor of Hahn's niece and robbery.
Ulivarri also admitted a special-circumstance allegation, murder during a robbery, that would normally make him subject to a possible death sentence.
But in return for his guilty pleas, the district attorney's office said it will not seek a death sentence against him. Instead, Ulivarri will be sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Ramona Gayton, 40. Sentencing was set for Oct. 12.
