The two rare Mexican howler monkeys recently taken into custody at a Baldwin Park animal shelter are headed for a new home at a Texas primate shelter, Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control officials announced.
The black howlers, an endangered species known for their odd guttural sounds, were taken from a Baldwin Park woman Nov. 28 after neighbors complained about gurgling noises in her back yard. State Fish and Game officials said they may prosecute the woman for possessing the animals without a permit.
