Not to be outdone by neighboring Beverly Hills, which is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, the city of West Hollywood is throwing a $10,000 party today to celebrate its fifth birthday.

At the Sports Connection, 8612 Santa Monica Blvd., the city's east-end Russian culture will be celebrated. Jewish and Russian food will be served, and entertainment will be provided by a Russian gymnastics team.
The night life along the Santa Monica corridor will be the subject at Esprit clothing store at 8491 Santa Monica Blvd. Disc jockey Greg Truman will spin vinyl for dancers all night. At the same site, the city's entertainment heritage will be celebrated, with performances by Kenny Sheldon and his orchestra and jazz saxophonist Walter Davis.
The Melrose quarter of town will be represented by ballad stylist Toya Ann Brown and contemporary pianist Ron Krager at the Athletic Club, 8560 Santa Monica Blvd.
All events are free and open to the public, and free parking will be available.
