The City Council has approved $350,000 for the city library's $1.8-million remodeling project, but the money came with strings attached.
The council, which approved the funding Tuesday, required library officials to first secure a $1.2-million state grant from $75 million in library construction funds generated by a 1988 bond act.
City Librarian Toni Buckner said a fund-raising drive has already earned $229,000 toward the remodeling. An application for the state money will be made in January.
The remodeling project would add 5,641 square feet to the 8,300-square-foot library building, at 440 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. A multipurpose room for meetings would be added, and the restrooms would be relocated.
