December 24, 1989

Four San Gabriel Valley teachers are among 11 finalists for BRAVO awards, given by the Music Center of Los Angeles for outstanding achievement in arts and general education. One prize is awarded in each category.

Dave Master of John A. Rowland High School in the Rowland Unified School District was selected as a finalist in the arts specialist category.

In the general education category, three San Gabriel Valley teachers qualified. They are Amelia J. Crawford, Eugene Field Elementary School in the Pasadena Unified School District; Lillian Brown, Chaparral Elementary School in the Claremont Unified School District, and Donna Garner, Roynon Elementary School in the Bonita Unified School District, which serves La Verne and San Dimas.

Criteria for selection are outstanding leadership and creativity, teaching methods that enhance arts education, the ability to interest students in arts and projects or programs that promote the arts as a learning resource.

More than 90 educators from 41 school districts in five Southern California counties were nominated for BRAVO awards. Winners will be announced Feb. 22 in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and will receive sculptures by Los Angeles artist William Crutchfield.

The BRAVO Awards are given annually by the Music Center Educational Division and are sponsored by the Jeffery Melamed Memorial Fund.
