February 19, 1990|From Times staff and Wire reports

District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry plans to leave the Hanley-Hazelden Center, an addiction-treatment facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Wednesday to seek further counseling at another clinic, possibly the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., sources said. Barry, who became a patient at the Hanley-Hazelden four days after his Jan. 18 drug arrest, was visited by City Administrator Carol B. Thompson and Maudine R. Cooper, his chief of staff, to discuss what one source described as "routine" legislative matters, as well as the mayor's options for treatment.
