George Carpenter of Long Beach came forward Friday to claim the last share of Wednesday's record $68.56-million Lotto jackpot, state lottery officials said.
Carpenter, who represents a group of five people who pooled their money to buy tickets, said, "It sure beats Social Security."
Two other Southern California winners--Joan Young of Laguna Niguel and Lydia Neufeld of Simi Valley--joined Carpenter at a news conference Friday. Young, who moved to Southern California a year and half ago with her family, said they plan to travel. Neufeld said she wants to build a Pentecostal church for her pastor, and her husband, Dave, a building contractor who is concerned about the environment, wants to support the Coalition Against Gill Net Fishing off the Southern California coast.
