James Lents, executive officer of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, will be the luncheon keynote speaker March 13 at a conference titled "Environmental Issues of the '90s" at the Stouffer Concourse Hotel, 5400 W. Century Blvd.
Designed for real estate owners, lenders, investors and operations managers, the daylong conference will focus on regulatory standards governing the real estate industry, legal strategies for handling toxics issues, ways to determine if a property is at risk in terms of toxics, practical approaches for acquiring and financing properties at risk and lessons learned from the 1989 Bay Area earthquake.
Lents will discuss expected changes for his district. Speakers from the Environmental Protection Agency and Cal/OSHA will outline ways to comply with air-quality laws.
Other speakers will be Jeffrey Masters and Lawrence Teplin, partners in the law firm of Cox, Castle & Nicholson; David L. Pogue, senior vice president of the Koll Co.; Raymond Keslake, president of Watt Land Inc., and Evan C. Henry, vice president/manager of environmental services for Bank of America.
The conference fee is $150, or $120 for members of the Building Owners and Managers Assn. of Los Angeles, which is sponsoring the program along with the Los Angeles Business Journal and CTL Environmental Services.
