Along with the increased status of bicycles as a means of transportation and exercise has come an unwelcome kind of popularity--their attraction to thieves. After a long downward trend in the number of stolen bikes (interrupted only in 1984), county residents are now seeing their bikes disappear in increasing numbers. Here's a look at the trend during the 1980s:
