Encouraging Words Boost Burn Victim's Spirits

March 12, 1990| United Press International

NEW YORK — A boy clinging to life in a Manhattan hospital with burns over half his body got a boost to his spirits Sunday as well-wishers sent messages of encouragement from around the country.

David Aupont, who turned 12 one day after a 13-year-old boy allegedly tied him up and torched him in the basement of an abandoned building, was excited about a letter from the Guardian Angels offering to walk him to school when he gets out of the hospital.

The Vietnam Veterans of America also sent a message offering to donate skin from its skin bank, said a New York University-Cornell Medical Center spokeswoman.

Aupont late last week received birthday greetings from President Bush, former President Ronald Reagan and New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins.
