The Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, the agency charged with disseminating Southern California's share of the 1984 Olympic surplus, announced nine new grants totaling $359,700. The largest was $150,000 to the organizing committee of the 1991 Los Angeles Olympic Festival for Olympic hopefuls from across the country.
Other grants included $54,000 to the Los Angeles Throwing Center, which offers instructional clinics in the hammer, discus, shot put and javelin, and $13,800 to the Mats Gymnastics Club in downtown Los Angeles. Grants also went outside the city to several organizations in Orange, San Diego and Imperial counties.
