JERUSALEM — Israel confined 650,000 Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip to their homes Thursday in a move aimed at preventing violence during their observation today of Land Day,the anniversary of the 1976 killing by police of six Israeli Arabs in protests over land rights.
