"Twin Peaks," ABC's offbeat new soap opera, provided the network with a peak of its own last week in the Nielsen ratings. The two-hour presentation on Sunday night, which benefited from back-to-back telecasts of "America's Funniest Home Videos," placed fifth and became the highest-rated movie shown during the 1989-90 season, which officially ends next week. ABC's success on Sunday, however, wasn't enough to give the network a victory for the week. That honor went to NBC, with CBS finishing third. The full list of ratings is on Page 10.
* "Carol & Company," the new Carol Burnett comedy series, had another solid outing on NBC. The show's second preview easily won its time slot last Saturday at 9:30 p.m. opposite ABC's "Kojak" and CBS' "Tour of Duty," placing 10th among 84 prime-time programs. Burnett's half-hour series will move into its regular 10 p.m. time slot this weekend.
