Region : Volunteer Tutors Sought

April 12, 1990

The Bureau of Jewish Education is looking for volunteers to help tutor the children of newly arrived Soviet immigrants.

"Since their parents cannot speak English, these children desperately need tutors to help them with their schoolwork, both English and Hebrew," said Miriam Goldman, a spokeswoman for the Bureau, which is the educational arm of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles.

With 1,700 Soviets arriving in Los Angeles and another 3,000 expected in 1990, the demand is increasing, she said.

Potential volunteers can call Esther Krisman at (213) 852-7708 for information.
