Over a weekend that saw no new releases knocking holdovers out of the Top 5 box office spots, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" had weekend sales of $14 million, pushing its total gross to nearly $73 million. Paramount Pictures' "Crazy People" earned $3.3 million at 1,389 screens, for sixth place, and a per-screen-average of $2,417. (The film, which opened last Wednesday, has a cumulative gross of $4.2 million.) Columbia Pictures' "The Gods Must Be Crazy II" earned an estimated $1.2 million on 321 screens, for about $3,800 per screen and tenth place.
* In limited release on 36 screens, Miramax's unrated "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover"--a controversial odyssey about food and sex, revenge and violence, set in a posh restaurant--earned about $430,000 for a high per-screen average of almost $12,000.
