The Bonfire of the Vanities (Warner Bros.). Shooting in L.A. and N.Y.C. Brian DePalma directs Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith and Bruce Willis. Based on the Tom Wolfe best-seller concerning an arrogant investment banker (Hanks) involved in the hit-and-run death of a black youth while out driving with his mistress (Griffith). Willis plays the sleazy tabloid reporter who runs the banker's name into the dirt. Executive producer Fred Caruso. Screenwriter Michael Cristofer.

L.A. Story (Melnick/IndieProd). Shooting in L.A. Steve Martin writes and stars with real-life wife Victoria Tennant in this L.A. love story/comedy. Martin's a recently terminated TV weatherman whose relationship with journalist Tennant is suddenly tenuous after a little dalliance with a young lady. Producers Dan Melnick and Michael Rachmil. Director Mick Jackson. Distributor Tri-Star.

Private Offering (Concorde). Shooting in L.A. When a young exec at a Wall Street investment firm inadvertently kills his boss and hides the body, all heck breaks loose. Producer Julie Corman.
