April 28, 1990|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The state Health Department said it has barred deposits at five New York sperm banks, including two being sued by women who say they were impregnated by the wrong sperm. Authorities said none of the banks had applied for a state license as required by a regulation that took effect in October. The banks, all in Manhattan, include Advanced Fertility Services and University Fertility Center of Research, which are facing lawsuits. The three other banks were Fertility Research Foundation, the Fertility Institute of New York and the Mary Wilson Fertility Center.
