On Pistons, Chaney, Riley and Downey

May 12, 1990

In Viewpoint (May 5) was a letter from someone who wrote, "The Lakers probably lost the NBA championship in 1989 because Scott and Magic couldn't play." The address was Torrance, but it should have been Disneyland because he and his fellow Laker fans don't live in the real world.

Detroit won the series in four straight, and two of them were blowouts. The Lakers wouldn't have beaten the Pistons in 1989 if they'd had a two-game handicap.
