Thieves battered in the door of a Canyon Country shop and stole home with more than $62,000 in rare baseball cards and china plates, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said Thursday.
The card-carrying crooks disabled the alarm at Pop's Sports Cards and Collectibles in the 18900 block of Soledad Canyon Road before smashing the shop's glass front door between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, deputies said.
Sgt. Jeff Thomas said the bandits escaped with 7,000 to 10,000 baseball cards and "collectible" plates, adorned with artwork and meant for display.
Shop owner Robert Manning refused to comment on the theft, but a woman who answered the telephone at the shop said the bandits took the entire inventory of individual cards.
"New and old," said the woman, who did not give her name.
She said Manning had alerted other area baseball card shops.
