Joe Morgan's Suspension Is Upheld

June 14, 1990|From Associated Press

NEW YORK — The American League has upheld the three-game suspension of Boston Red Sox Manager Joe Morgan Wednesday for his part in a bench-clearing brawl with Cleveland on June 3.

Morgan was suspended after gloating about Roger Clemens hitting Cleveland's Stanley Jefferson with a pitch.

"I loved it. We got even, didn't we?" Morgan said after the June 3 game. "We voted as a team 34-0 that it would be such."

Third base coach Rac Slider will fill in for Morgan against New York tonight.
