The body of an unidentified woman was found at the archery range in Balboa Park's Palm Canyon Park about 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Homicide Lt. Jim Duncan said.

The cause of death was undetermined, Duncan said. "There were no stab wounds, no obvious signs of trauma." An autopsy will be performed.

Duncan said the woman was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a sweat shirt. Her age was estimated at 35 to 40.

"It looks like she was probably a transient," he said. Police will attempt to make a positive identification through fingerprints, he added.

The woman's body was discovered by archers. She was covered with a blanket, and they first thought she was sleeping, Sgt. Jim Clear said.
