New York's Rikers Island jail was quiet as authorities investigated a bloody brawl that left 76 inmates and guards injured. Fighting erupted Friday when Muslim inmates leaving a prayer service tried to storm the cellblock housing an inmate who allegedly slashed the face of a jailed Muslim leader. "The jail is secure and it is operating normally. A full investigation is in progress," Corrections Department spokeswoman Ruby Ryles said. Ryles said none of the puncture wounds, slashings, head traumas and other injuries suffered by 39 guards and 37 inmates were serious.
