RIVERDALE, Ga. — The office of an NAACP chapter was heavily damaged by gasoline explosions Tuesday. It was the second firebombing at the location in eight days, authorities said.
The office was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Benjamin L. Hooks, executive director of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, called on the public to denounce those responsible for the damage.
"We ask, in the wake of this latest vicious attack against the NAACP, when will this madness cease?" he said.
Hooks accused law enforcement agencies of inadequately guarding the office in this Atlanta suburb after the first attack July 16, when a gasoline bomb was thrown through a window. The office had been vacant then also.
The FBI, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local police and fire departments were investigating the crimes.
