Hot rods and hot food will be the focus of separate events this weekend in Oceanside and Vista.
On Saturday, the second annual Old Fashioned Chili Cookoff and Street Rod Run will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ivey Ranch, at Via Rancho Road and Mesa Drive in Oceanside. The event will benefit the Women's Resource Center.
More than 40 chili cookers sanctioned by the International Chili Society will prepare spicy hot recipes that will be judged by local community leaders, including Oceanside Mayor Larry Bagley and Deputy Fire Chief Jack Frances. A car show displaying more than 100 classic and pre-1960s street rods will also be held.
Also scheduled is an appearance by Misty the Magnificent, the pony who has performed stunts on TV shows "Good Morning America" and "Late Night With David Letterman." Live music by the Ricochet Band will be performed.
Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
On Sunday, the Vista Town Center Assn. is sponsoring a hot rod competition from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Vista on East Vista Way and East Broadway between Citrus and Santa Fe avenues. More than 200 pre-1970s street rods will be featured at the Main Street Rod Run No. 1.
North Star & Kamelot will perform 1950s and '60s-style music throughout the day, and the cast from the Moonlight Amphitheatre production of "Grease" will provide a stage show at 11:30 a.m.
