The International Institute of Los Angeles, a nonprofit social service agency with headquarters in Boyle Heights, on Friday launched a new program called L.A. Cares! to help victims of the growing number of hate crimes in Los Angeles.
Executive Director Livinia Limon said that the Los Angeles County Human Rights Commission recently reported that racially, ethnically and religiously motivated assaults had increased more than 400% in the metropolitan area from 1981 to 1989.
