THE SIDELINES : Soccer Teams Swap All-Stars

August 20, 1990| From Times Wire Services

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Forward Dale Mitchell, the third-leading scorer in the Major Soccer League last season, was traded by the Kansas City Comets to the Baltimore Blast today.

The Comets received forward Carl Valentine, who was among the league leaders in assists last year.

Mitchell, a three time all-star, scored 70 points last season on 47 goals and 23 assists. Valentine, also a league all-star three times, scored 58 points with 24 goals and 34 assists.

"We reviewed the makeup of the Comets squad, and we felt the need for some experience at midfield. Carl Valentine fits that bill," said David Clements, the Comets' head coach.
