In an effort to decrease traffic congestion and air pollution, the City Council on Tuesday night adopted a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for a Caltrans grant of $12,306 to be used for the improvement of signal timing on Pico Boulevard.

The funds would be used to hire a consultant who will compute movement counts at all intersections on Pico Boulevard that have traffic signals. The information would be used to devise computer software to coordinate traffic signals for maximum efficiency.

The new system would be designed to react to changing traffic loads. Caltrans offers Fuel Efficient Traffic Signal Management grants each year for the development of improved signal timing.
