This letter is being written in hopes of correcting a very wrong decision by the district attorney ("No Charges for Preacher in Death of Transvestite," Sept. 17).
Donald Pierce, 36, was killed by being run over and dragged 50 feet by Fred Ray Belloff, a minister for Christ's Missionary, on Sept. 4, 1990, at 3:30 a.m.
I am outraged. Was Belloff not charged because Pierce was a transient as well as a transvestite? Surely, Belloff is not being charged because Pierce allegedly robbed him.
According to the spokeswoman for the district attorney, Belloff did not know that he hit Pierce, even though he dragged him 50 feet with his car. It is difficult to believe that there is not a chargeable offense in this situation.
Pierce may have been a transient when he was alive but that does not mean he did not have dignity. His death was unwarranted, and when the district attorney knows how and by whom he met his death, it is unjustified not to prosecute.
