More than 700 junior and senior high school students attended a leadership conference focusing on gang and drug problems Saturday at South Gate Junior High School.
The conference, "A Rainbow of Leaders for Today and Tomorrow," featured 22 student-run workshops. This was the third year the conference has been held. Other workshops included peer counseling, the organization of meetings, and understanding other cultures.
The students came from 155 schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District and were either in student government or displayed leadership potential, said Richard L. Browning, an administrator in the Senior High School Division.
