Protests against government economic policies and soaring prices spread to the city of Timisoara, but Prime Minister Petre Roman vowed in Bucharest to continue working for a market economy. Five thousand union members staged a noisy anti-government protest in Timisoara, cradle of December's anti-Communist revolution. They denounced the ruling National Salvation Front and demanded a union role in setting economic policy.
