Prime-Time Flicks

November 11, 1990|KEVIN THOMAS

The 1986 Iron Eagle (Channel 5 Tuesday at 8 p.m.) achieves a kind of perfection of awfulness that only earnest effort can produce. Jason Gedrick plays the adoring 18-year-old son of a jet fighter pilot shot down and taken prisoner by a fictional Middle Eastern country--read Libya--while on a routine reconnaissance mission. When the U.S. hesitates to intervene, Gedrick, aided by crusty retired Air Force Col. Louis Gossett Jr., take matters into his own hands.
