NEW YORK — A bronze plaque marking the birthplace of Lou Gehrig that was stolen from the Yorkville section of Manhattan several years ago will be replaced by the Yankees.
In ceremonies Thursday, George Steinbrenner, Manager Stump Merrill, General Manager Gene Michael, broadcasters Mel Allen and Phil Rizzuto and players Rick Cerone, Alvaro Espinosa and Jim Leyritz will unveil a new memorial plaque on the brownstone where Gehrig was born in 1903.
