Betty N. Ferraro, 44, has been appointed to the Downey Unified School District Board of Education, replacing Walter S. Temple, who resigned in September.
Ferraro, who has two children attending school in the district, was one of four candidates seeking the seat. Ferraro has been an active PTA member, and has participated in anti-gang and other school programs, Supt. Edward Sussman said.
Temple, who recently moved to Houston, had been on the board since 1981. His term was not due to expire until 1993. Ferraro will serve until November, 1991, when an election will be held to fill the seat for the remaining two years of Temple's term, Sussman said.
