A passer and runner who both excel at breaking records will go against each other when Santa Monica College (8-2) meets Moorpark (8-2) in the Western State Conference Bowl at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Moorpark.

The game, which matches teams that each finished second in their respective divisions of the WSC, will pit SMC quarterback Jeff Barrett against Moorpark running back Freddie Bradley. The Corsairs were runners-up to Bakersfield in the WSC Southern Division and Moorpark finished second to Glendale in the Northern Division.

Over the past two seasons, the left-handed Barrett, the state's top-rated community college passer, shattered many school records. This year he completed 165 of 270 passes for 2,648 yards and 26 touchdowns, setting school records for yardage and touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 touchdowns this year and the 37 touchdowns he accounted for this season puts him in third place in California community college football history.

In two years at SMC, he has passed for school records of 4,158 yards and 39 touchdowns, having completed 267 of 458 passes. He also has compiled 4,296 yards in total offense to break another school record.

In a 20-17 defeat of Los Angeles Valley last week, Barrett completed only eight of 26 passes for 231 yards, but he passed for a touchdown and ran for two others.

In a 44-10 rout of Ventura last week, Bradley rushed for three touchdowns, giving him 52 in two years and breaking the national record of 50 set by O. J. Simpson at City College of San Francisco in 1965-66. His eighteen points against Ventura gave him 318 for his career, which breaks Simpson's national mark of 304.

Bradley also rushed for 171 yards and had an unofficial 184 all-purpose yards, which would give him 4,122 total yards and break the career record of 4,115 established by Alonzo Washington of Gavilan in 1985-86.
