So often I've thought of the scorched earth left behind by the Lorenzos, Milkens, Keatings, et al., as they do their deeds.
Your column (Joseph N. Bell, View, Nov. 13) was right on!
When I lived in Mexico many years ago, the rich women I sometimes socialized with (not often) conversed about their servants. They complained of their indolence and cunning--much as the "haves" in Orange County rave on about the less fortunate.
The complaining women had nothing to do, and the people they reviled worked for little more than "room" and board, the "room" being roughly akin to slaves' quarters. Come to think of it, that is often how slaves were spoken of.
