Computers Donated to School

A computer firm has donated $235,000 worth of equipment to the California Academy of Mathematics and Science, a specialty high school at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.

Thirty academy students will soon be able to take home computers donated by Apple Computer for use during a nine-week computer skills course, said Douglas Stewart, the academy's director of development. An additional 32 computers, along with printers and other equipment, are already in place in classrooms and offices.

Stewart said the donation will enable the school, which accepts students from five neighboring school districts, to keep up with changing technology. The academy opened this semester and is the first math-science high school in the nation situated on a university campus, school officials say.
